Atrial Fibrillation
Patients with atrial fibrillation, or “afib,” require both immediate attention and consideration of long term consequences. We consider all of this in our evaluation and management. Diagnostic tests for afib are performed in our office. We are one of the only centers that perform insertable cardiac monitor procedures in a private office setting.
Schedule an AppointmentStroke Prevention
Our physicians offer specialized expertise and a comprehensive range of services proven to reduce the risk for stroke and related conditions. We evaluate every patient's risk of developing cardiovascular disease – or risk of suffering a cardiovascular event, such as a heart attack or stroke – and examine hereditary factors and other conditions that can affect a patient's future health. Then, we work to develop patient-specific medical plans to proactively reduce the risk factors for each individual.
Catheter Ablation
Catheter ablation is a procedure used to treat an arrhythmia when abnormal heart tissue is the cause. A catheter is threaded through the blood vessels to the heart, and then heat or extreme cold is applied to abnormal heart tissue in order to ablate (destroy) areas that are triggering the abnormal heart rhythm. This ablation allows electrical signals to travel over a normal pathway instead, stopping the arrhythmia.
Insertable cardiac monitors
An insertable cardiac monitor is a small device that is programmed to continuously monitor your heart's activities before, during and after episodes of possible cardiac conditions, including:
- Recurrent, unexplained fainting
- Heart palpitations
- Unexplained stroke
- Atrial fibrillation
The device then records your heart's rhythms automatically and manually by using a hand-held patient assistant. With this in-depth and real-time data, Chicago Cardiology can better analyze your condition and determine the cause.
Wearable monitors
A monitor worn for 24 hours with beat by beat analysis of every heartbeat. This monitor is the first line diagnostic test for many heart rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation and premature ventricular contractions (PVC’s).
