Professional Background
Dr. David Rayan is an interventional cardiologist with specialized training in coronary artery disease and prevention, structural heart disease, transcatheter valve therapies, and the treatment of peripheral vascular disease. This broad foundation allows him to care for patients across the full spectrum of heart and vascular health, from reducing risk early to performing advanced, minimally invasive procedures. He completed his interventional cardiology fellowship at Advocate Aurora Health in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he also completed his cardiovascular disease fellowship. Prior to that, he completed his internal medicine residency at Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals. Dr. Rayan is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, internal medicine, echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology.
Dr. Rayan earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree and a Master of Arts in Bioethics from Kansas City University, where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society and completed the Honors Internal Medicine Specialty Track. He also holds a Master of Science in Bioscience from Kansas City University and a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology from Loyola University Chicago.
His clinical research focuses on transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), including valve-in-valve and redo TAVR procedures. He has presented this work at national meetings including Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), and his poster on valve-in-valve outcomes earned first place at the American College of Cardiology Wisconsin Chapter meeting. He has also published research in cardio-oncology, including work in JAMA Oncology and a textbook chapter on artificial intelligence in cardio-oncology. Dr. Rayan currently serves on the SCAI Education Committee.
Dr. Rayan is committed to compassionate, patient-centered care. Throughout his training, he has taught medical students at the bedside and volunteered extensively, from providing free health screenings to thousands of Kansas City schoolchildren to serving with medical brigades in under-resourced communities abroad. He works closely with each patient to understand their goals and build a treatment plan that fits their life. Dr. Rayan sees patients in English and also speaks some basic Spanish and Arabic.
